Frequently Asked Questions
How Is The Confidential Information I Give You Treated?
All that takes place between myself and the client is treated with respect and discretion. I treat all information disclosed to me as confidential. Any information my supervisor receives is also treated as confidential and we do not disclose client details to any third party UNLESS summonsed to do so by law. Should I feel that a client is either a danger to themselves or to others, involved in or aware of ongoing child abuse or serious crime, I do reserve the right to inform outside agencies. I would not do so without, wherever possible, informing the client first.
I also abide by the International Society of Professional Counsellors Code Of Ethics. ISPC site here
Does Anybody Need to Know I'm Seeing a Counsellor?
No information will be passed on to anyone (your GP, employer, solicitor etc) unless you specifically consent to the release of this information in writing.
How Do I Know If Counselling Is What I Need?
I offer all prospective clients an assessment interview. This provides both of us with the opportunity of deciding whether we wish to work together. We would then agree an appropriate number of sessions and at the end of this period we jointly assess progress and what further action may be needed. If we are not to work together I will attempt to assist by providing, wherever possible alternative therapists and agencies to contact.
When Can I Have An Appointment?
Details of my counselling hours are as below:
| Day | From | Until |
| Monday | 11-30am | 3-30pm |
| Tuesday | 4-00pm | 8-00pm |
| Wednesday | 11-30am | 3-30pm |
| Thursday | 11-30am | 3-30pm |
| Friday | 11-30am | 3-30pm |
How Long Does It Take?
It depends on you and the problem. Sessions last for 1 hour and, where possible, are on the same day and time each week. I use the technique of "brief focused therapy." This means that the therapy is targeted at the specific problem and typically lasts 6-8 sessions. Occasionally a maintenance programme of therapy may be required e.g. the patient returns on a monthly basis.

What If I Can't Come To A Session?
If you are late in arriving for a session we still terminate at the usual time. If you are more than 15 minutes late, without notification, for a session it will be classed as a 'no show' and a new appointment will have to be made. A cancellation fee may also be raised against this session as a full 24 hours notice of cancellation is normally required. Otherwise I regret that the full fee is payable.
How Can I Pay?
By cash or cheque together with a valid bankers card. I regret that owing to bank charges 60p is added when payment is made by cheque.
